Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day

Today was both, as happens every so-many years. Not surprisingly there was an even bigger turnout than usual on Angel Hill and at St Mary's Church. Here are some images.

Macebearers, Mayor's Consort and Deputy Mayor greet the guests

Safer neighbourhood teams go to their posts cheerfully

Jackie from the admin section is i/c refreshments

The Chief Executive assists Mr John Knight, whilst daughter India looks on

Former Mayor and newer councillor sport medals

The first service

At St Mary's

Afterwards at The Athenaeum

What is the collective noun for Honorary freemen? In this case an MBE, Knighthood and OBE.

Finally (below) the Mayor concludes with a moving tribute to those who have fallen in current conflict, whose families were present

Armistice Day will next be on a Sunday in 2012 and again in 2018 - the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War. The signing took place on a Monday.
