Diary update 3

Here I am again, but there are lots of technical difficulties - so please bear with me..... Monday 26th March Went to one of my residents' association's AGMs at the Greene King social club - Cathedral Meadows (AKA Corsbie Close). This is the fourth year I have attended and there is always a large group of householders present. This year the perennial subject of parking arose, so I have set up a meeting between the chairman and one of our new PCSOs for today. I have also been able to organise grass strimming and cutting in the area. Tuesday 27th March The election was "called" and I submitted my nomination forms at 9am. I am standing again to represent Abbeygate Ward in the St Edmundsbury Borough Council elections on May 3rd. There are also town council elections that day. Then straight off to Denny Brothers' conference centre for a day long training session for cabinet members and senior council officers. At 6.30 pm Angela and I were guests at Bury in Bloom's launch at The Athenaeum, with special guest Kim Wilde. Wednesday 28th March Cattle Market Redevelopment Working Party meeting, at which I asked developers Taylor Woodrow whether they would be paying compensation to Nelson Road residents: the answer was "still under consideration". I also argued strongly that it was unnecessary to create new public lavatories at the Corn Exchange. It is 260 metres from there to the excellent facilities at Angel Hill, which is 350 of my steps, and takes me 3 minutes. Even assuming a less fit person takes double that time, don't most people's bodies give them at least 6 minutes notice of the need to go? Thursday 29th March Replied to planners who have rejected my proposal for a masterplan for the BT site in College/Whiting Streets. Copied and delivered it to local residents. Also wrote to Nelson Road residents to update them on my involvement with their problems. Councillors' briefing on the new Public Service Village building at Western Way. Today - Friday 30th March Read about some of the above in the Bury Free Press which you can find at: buryfreepress.co.uk/news Tomorrow I am off knocking on doors...

With regard to the proposed toilets, perhaps you could have regard for the elderly and for those less fit than yourself for whom it would take much longer than three minutes to reach them!

I have a kidney reflux problem and my body doesn't always give me 6 minutes notice of the need to go. My children do not give me 6 minutes notice of their need to go. I find your comments insensitive and patronising, tinged with a little ignorance. I bet you won't publish this comment.

Anonymous 1: I did say "most" and "6 minutes".

Anonymous 2: See above. Perhaps you could train your children?

What do they do in other towns which have less good facilities?

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, children are not like pets and are not too easy to "train". My daughter is so caught up in her imagination that her mind is not constandtly on her bladder. I'm sure you can understand that PSF, or were your own children easy to "train"?

Anonymous said...

How can you "train" children? Do you have experience of such "training"? My children are very young - barely out of nappies!!!!

Charlotte Howard said...

It all depends what you mean by "training"...

Anonymous said...

Any instructions on how to "train" children would be much appreciated! My own are so wild, they are constantly asking for sweeets, even though I have told them that is more polite to hint than to ask...Such hard work...

I don't see what the last anonymous' comment has to do with the blog. However, in response to this I would suggest that unless your children have specific behavioural disorders, it is your parenting that makes them wild. Spend less time reading local blogs and more time watching 'Super Nanny'. Do not let them have sweets. The NHS has a big enough problem with obesity as it is (excuse the pun) and we do not want your children ending up with ASBOs do we now?

I'm thinkin' about my door bell mama, when ya gonna ring it..when ya gonna ring it???? You remind me of my favourite song by the White Stripes.

I don't see what Steve William's (dire) music tastes have to do with the blog. Let's try to stay on the topic (toilets) rather than going at a tangent.

"Knock, Knock Knocking on heaven's door,,,hey, hey, hey" (Guns 'n' Roses) As you can see I'm a bit of a music fan. I read bits of your blog and it reminds me of songs I've heard. Cliff Richard is my biggest inspiration but you come a close second. If you're lucky I might write an election song for you....................................... "I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky......." (Kylie Minogue)

How about:

"Life is only what we choose to make it.
Let's just take it,
Let us be free.
We can find the glory we all dream of.
And with our love, we can win.
(Refrain) Still, we must fight or face defeat.
We must stand tall and not retreat.
With our strength we'll find the might.
There's no fight we can't fight together,
All together,
We can win.
Blessed with strong hearts that beat as one,
Watch us soar.
And with love that conquers all
We'll win this battle, this last battle.
We will win... We must win...
We will win... We can win...
We can win...
As the battle goes on we feel stronger.
How much longer
Must this go on?
Each and every day we dream of winning
and beginning a new life.
(Refrain)

Artist: Reba West
Song: We Will Win

Brilliant idea Steve! How about:
"knock knock knocking in the Bury ward
P'rhaps our Paul's gonna strike a chord?
Last election his polling soared!
........."

Rock on Paul!

Thanks anonymous. You are not the same anonymous that wrote that long funeral poem are you? Or the anonymous who said my music tastes are dire? Or the anonymous who can't control their kids? Loved your catchy hit for Paul. Reckon i could make up a tune for it on my guitar. Can you play any instruments? I'm actually looking to form a band. Please say who you are anonymouses. I get confused with who's who and what's what. I feel a tune coming on.......................
"What's that coming over the hill..is it a monster? Is it a monster?" (anyone know the singer of that one off hand?)

Anonymous said...

Oh Steve, why are you so hung about the anonymous comments (I think you'll find that the plural of anonymous is anonyMICE). I choose to remain anonymous for a professional reasons.
And yes, I do play an instrument, the piano, so maybe we could hook up and make sweet music?
And no, I did not write the funeral poem!
PSF: Would you consider forming a trio with us? I like to play duets on the piano but have no-one to play with. It's a passion I would love to pursue.
Cheerio.

You`re just great, Steve! Real cool!

Can`t say who I am but I dont think your music tastes are dire!!!! It certainly aint me!!!!

Have you made up that song yet on your guitar? I can play the mouth organ.

PSF politely declines.

"If you're thinking about using your vote, don't go out on your boat cause there's just too much to lose.....if ya don't vote for Paul...oh yeah..oh yeah..Paul's the greatest..Paul's the latest politician. He has the best ideas...He gets rid of all my fears for this town..this almighty town...oh yeah, oh yeah... I don't know what we're all gonna do if those Lib Dems get through but I think I might be suicidal... Paul knows what to do..He knows about public loos..His blog gets rid of the blues..Vote for Paul!!!

What do you think? Should we get together anon and busk outside woolworths??

Anonymous said...

I think that site's already taken. I have seen a man who goes by the name of Moses with an accordian there. Maybe he would like to form a trio with us Steve, as PSF doesn't want to? And the other anon could join us too? btw, love the songs Steve, you really are an artist. Maybe I could put the notes to your poetic words? Why don't we meet up outside Bury library one day?

Anonymous said...

Let's hook up anonyMice but first you're gonna have to tell me who you are........

Anonymous said...

I fear revealing my identity. For now I am K. You will certinly recognise me - I'm afraid I have no hair left on my head. I have made up for that on my chin though! I'll wear something bright just in case. How about outside the library, Saturday at 13:15?
anon K

Anonymous said...

Are you a man or a woman K? I am all man. I have long brown hair and a wispy beard. I'll be smoking a roll-up most probably.

Anonymous said...

man, last time I looked!
K

This is all very amusing, I'm sure, but getting out of hand.

How do you know my middle name starts with S? You must have inside knowledge and/or be very familyer.

Anonymous said...

I have done my research. See http://www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk/sebc/live/councillorsearch/councillor.cfm?CouncillorID=3

I would have thought you would be diligent enough to know what's written about you on the web!

And by the way, it's FAMILIAR. You might want to consider hiring an editor.

Anonymous said...

I think you'll find it's 'familiar'.

Charlotte Howard said...

Well done!

I'm sure you realised that I was trying to make a point - but I should have put FAMILYAR. Think about it.

Anonymous said...

Are you talking to me? Exactly what point are you trying to make? You have still spelt the word 'familiar' incorrectly. Look it upon the web if you don't have a dictionary to hand.

Anonymous said...

Chill!

Anonymous said...

A familiar, not familyar, is an animal that helps a witch with her spells. Usually they are cats.

I see there has been some correspondence about ghosts. Does Paul Farmer have a familiar?

Anonymous said...

Did you get my note about "familiars"

Joe

This is all getting a bit cryptic for me. Soemthing to do with family or liar? I was never that good at English at school- Music is my thing..
