According to yesterday's EADT the new owners of Shire Hall are having difficulty letting the office space, and so have applied for planning permission to turn "part" of it (though I can find no reference in the application to which part - can you?) into a hotel. Apparently Travelodge have proposed a scheme for an 80 room establishment and other hoteliers have made enquiries.
My soundings so far among residents show an early split between those who would welcome a hotel as preferable to flats or office space and those who dread the comings and goings at all hours down the relative overnight quiet of Southgate Street.
