'This really won't wash!' say residents...

Residents in the Harrington close area, near the former car hire business off Maynewater Lane, are contacting me about the planning application there for a car wash business. Whilst I would always encourage enterprising new businesses to set up in Abbeygate, especially in these difficult times, that doesn't mean that residential areas should suffer as a result.

Looking at the application from the point of view of Harrington Close neighbours, the picture below shows how this venture would be very close to them and even closer to the river Linnet. What would be the environmental implications, as well as the effect on the amenity of those who live near?

To find out more about this application, including how to comment on it go to the SEBC website planning section and quote SE/09/0301
LATEST Thursday 2nd April:
The Town Council roundly threw out this application last night, following the request of local resident Mike Dell and comments from other residents which I reported to the planning meeting. Together with Cllr Richard Rout (who questioned why such a poor application was even being considered in its present form) I proposed its rejection on the grounds of (briefly): poor information; light, noise and odour pollution; environmental fears for the river; and traffic concerns.
I shall now be submitting my own similar response, as borough councillor, direct to the planning authority.
