Not again...?!

UPDATE: I have arranged a private meeting with senior representatives of the Police and Borough Council, to which all residents concerned have received a printed invitation.

For the umpteenth time in this stretch of road, and not the first time for this building, a vehicle has presumably gone round the bend too soon and collided into it. What would have happened to any pedestrians here - broken legs at best? Not to mention the fact that the owner has just completed renovating and vastly improving this property!

I understand that the police continue to refuse to agree to let the Council extend the 20 mph speed limit down Honey Hill, Sparhawk Street and Southgate Street- something I have been trying to get done since 2002. I have therefore decided to call a meeting of residents, where they can hear what the authorities (whom I am also inviting) have to say about this.

Watch this space...

Was this Southgate Street on Friday? If so then the 20mph limit may not necessarily have helped - I almost lost control of my car going around the corner there as something had been spilled on the roads all through Bury from Westgate Street down to Southgate Green roundabout.

Not that I'm opposed to extending the limit into this area. The road width and successive turns should cause drivers to slow up, and having an enforceable limit will allow something to be done to deter those who don't.

I think it was Saturday afternoon Mark. Unfortunately the 20 mph limits are supposed to be 'self-enforcing' but I think residents would be more comfortable if there were one.

Even a "your speed indicator" simlar to those in thetford, positioned half way down southgate street replacing a one way sign would be a improvement.

Mark yes it was saturday at about 1pm ish. Its not unusual to see cars lose control coming round St Marys square. If some one had been killed what action would be taken .....
