5.50 pm Distressed lady (whom I know) phones about Leylandi at the end of her garden. Can I help her? I arrange to visit her on Monday morning.

6.10 pm Gentleman phones about Leylandi at the end of his garden which he understands I might be campaigning for removal. They provide a lovely screen and he would be very disappointed if they were cut down.

The moral of this story is: one person's useful screen is another person's oppressive high hedge. The rule of thumb is: for every person a councillor helps, two other people are annoyed by whatever it is s/he gets done.
