"Consider the lilies..."

We moved nearly a year ago and inherited an empty pond. This spring we got round to trying to cheer it up, but with our inexperience of domestic water features (although we did sink our own water bore once) we didn't know where to turn. Eventually we found a straggly thing in Wyevale which claimed to be a water lily, bought it and dumped it in the pond with little hope it would come to much. But gradually it got bigger and bigger as its leaves formed proper pads on the surface. Then we saw a couple of buds recently, and yesterday this happened!
